Easily accessible with a slew of new flights, and with new health and travel protocols in place, the Bahamas is back to welcoming guests. Whether you’re visiting for leisure or business, it pays to know what to expect before traveling to this island paradise.
Eased entry restrictions
Travelers entering the country are no longer required to secure a Bahamas Travel Health Visa. Local authorities decided to discontinue the requirement to ease the burden on travelers and to signal that the Bahamas is once again open for business. In another move to make travel to the Bahamas easier, local authorities removed the COVID-19 testing requirement for fully vaccinated visitors. Instead, they need only present valid proof of vaccination before boarding a flight to the Bahamas.
COVID-19 tests for unvaccinated travelers
Travelers entering the Bahamas ages 2 years old and up should undergo either an RT-PCR or a rapid antigen test no more than three days or 72 hours prior to travel. Proof of a negative test result must be presented at the check-in counter. Exempted from taking the COVID-19 test are children under the age of 2.
Enjoy a memorable – and safe – tropical island experience
The Bahamas has a chain of 700 islands for visitors to explore and enjoy, including the capital Nassau, the Exumas, Eleuthera, Paradise Island, Rum Cay, San Salvador, and many more. The multi-island nation is brimming with world-class resorts such as the privately owned Kamalame Cay that are perfect for romantic escapades and family fun. Travelers can now explore the beaches and attractions of each island with fewer restrictions. Visitors traveling inter-island within the Bahamas are no longer required to undergo COVID-19 testing, regardless of vaccination status. Residents and visitors, however, must still wear face masks when traveling in a taxi, transiting air and sea terminals, checking in and boarding an aircraft or any transportation, entering any establishment, and checking into a hotel. Face masks are not required while at the Bahamas’ many beaches. But they should be worn when visiting public spaces and entering or exiting the beach. Anyone violating this protocol will be subjected to a fine of $250, one-month imprisonment, or both. Social distancing should also always be observed in public places, even on the beaches. Guests are advised to check the status of their island destination by visiting the “Know Before You Go” Interactive Island Guide.
